Crispy Air Fryer Fried Pickles with a Zesty Twist

Air Fryer Fried Pickles

These crispy air fryer fried pickles offer a lighter twist on the classic pub favorite. Coated in a spicy egg wash and crunchy panko, they’re served with a tangy sour cream and onion dip.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sliced dill pickles
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce (e.g., Tabasco)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup minced onions
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill (optional)

Instructions

  1. Lay pickles between paper towels and press gently. Let them dry for a few minutes to remove excess moisture.
  2. In a shallow dish, whisk together eggs, flour, hot sauce, salt, and pepper to form the egg wash.
  3. Place panko breadcrumbs in another shallow dish.
  4. Dip each pickle slice into the egg wash, shake off excess, then coat both sides in breadcrumbs.
  5. Transfer breaded pickles to a tray while finishing the rest.
  6. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  7. Place pickles in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving space between each piece.
  8. Spray with oil and air fry for 7 minutes. Flip, spray again, and cook for another 7 minutes until golden brown.
  9. In a bowl, mix sour cream, mayonnaise, onions, garlic, dill (optional), salt, and pepper to prepare the dip.
  10. Serve pickles hot with the dip on the side.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free flour and panko.
  • Try bread-and-butter pickles for a sweet-savory variation.
  • Adjust the heat level by changing the hot sauce or quantity used.
  • Make the dip ahead and chill for best flavor blending.
