The Ultimate Cheesy Garlic Bread Recipe

Cheesy Garlic Bread

This cheesy garlic bread is a rich, savory, and indulgent side dish featuring roasted garlic, a buttery garlic custard soak, and gooey melted mozzarella cheese. It’s triple-baked for a crispy outside and tender, flavorful interior.

Ingredients

  • 8-10 garlic cloves
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted (113g)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup milk (60g)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • 12 King’s Hawaiian Original Hawaiian Sheet Rolls (or equivalent French baguette)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Chopped parsley and chili flakes for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. Mix peeled garlic cloves with olive oil and salt, then place in a covered oven-safe dish and bake for 20 minutes until golden and soft.
  3. Mash the roasted garlic and set aside.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together mashed garlic, melted butter, egg, milk, salt, paprika, and parsley to make the garlic butter custard.
  5. Lower oven temperature to 350°F.
  6. Slice the sheet of rolls horizontally into two halves and place on a baking sheet cut-side up. Bake for 10 minutes until lightly toasted.
  7. Transfer garlic custard to a shallow pan and dip each toasted bread half into the custard, coating all sides.
  8. Return dipped bread to the baking sheet and bake for 18 minutes until golden.
  9. Top bread with shredded mozzarella and broil for 5 minutes until the cheese is melted and slightly charred.
  10. Garnish with chopped parsley and chili flakes. Slice and serve warm.

Notes

  • French baguette can be used in place of Hawaiian rolls.
  • The egg can be omitted if needed.
  • For deeper flavor, roasting the garlic is highly recommended over using raw garlic.
  • Reheat leftovers in an oven for best texture.
