Chicken Sausage Orzo

Chicken Sausage Orzo

Chicken Sausage and Broccoli Orzo is a one-pot comfort dish made with tender orzo pasta, browned chicken sausage, and vibrant broccoli in a creamy Parmesan-infused broth. It’s quick, hearty, and perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups orzo pasta
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound chicken sausage, sliced
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add sliced chicken sausage and cook for 5–7 minutes until browned.
  3. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Stir in broccoli florets and cook for 2–3 minutes until they begin to soften.
  5. Add orzo, chicken broth, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  6. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer. Cover and cook for 12 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Once orzo is tender and most liquid is absorbed, remove from heat.
  8. Stir in grated Parmesan cheese until melted and creamy.
  9. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.

Notes

  • For a creamier texture, stir in 1/4 cup of heavy cream before serving.
  • You can substitute turkey or plant-based sausage for a different flavor or dietary need.
  • Frozen broccoli can be used; add 1–2 extra minutes to cook time.
  • Reheat leftovers with a splash of broth to maintain creaminess.
