This Christmas Sprinkle Buttermilk Bread is a moist, buttery quick bread filled with festive red and green sprinkles. It’s simple to make and perfect for holiday brunches, gifting, or a cozy seasonal treat.

Ingredients

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 cup buttermilk

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • ½ cup red and green sprinkles

  • 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (optional topping)

  • Additional sprinkles for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper or grease it lightly.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk the melted butter and sugar until smooth. Add the eggs one at a time, whisking well after each. Stir in the vanilla extract and buttermilk.
  4. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring just until combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Gently fold in the red and green sprinkles.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Smooth the top and sprinkle with coarse sugar and additional sprinkles if desired.
  7. Bake for 55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • Use jimmies, not nonpareils, to prevent color bleeding.
  • Do not overmix to maintain a tender crumb.
  • This bread can be turned into muffins; bake for 22 minutes at the same temperature.
  • Wrap in wax paper and twine for a gift-ready presentation.
