Christmas Sugar Cookies

These Christmas Sugar Cookies are soft, chewy, and filled with red and green holiday sprinkles. Topped with lightly sweetened cream cheese frosting and a festive sprinkle finish, they’re perfect for holiday celebrations, family baking, and gifting.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter (room temperature)
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cornstarch (optional)
  • ½ cup cream cheese (softened)
  • ¼ cup butter (softened)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Holiday sprinkles for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract and beat until fully incorporated.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, salt, and cornstarch. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until combined.
  5. Chill the dough for 30 minutes to an hour.
  6. Roll the dough into 1.5-inch balls and place them on the baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  8. For the frosting, beat together cream cheese and butter until smooth, then gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until fluffy.
  9. Once the cookies are cool, frost with cream cheese frosting and top with festive sprinkles.

Notes

  • Ensure the butter and egg are at room temperature for the best texture.
  • Chill the dough before baking to prevent cookies from spreading too much.
  • If you prefer, you can substitute the cream cheese frosting with buttercream frosting.
