Ingredients

  • 12 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • Juice from 1 orange (about 1/4 cup)
  • Zest from 1 orange
  • 1 cinnamon stick (or 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine cranberries, sugar, orange juice, and orange zest.
  2. Add the cinnamon stick to the mixture.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring often, until it reaches a boil.
  4. Let it cook for 10 minutes or until the cranberries begin to burst and the sauce thickens.
  5. Remove the cinnamon stick from the pan.
  6. Transfer the sauce to a serving bowl, cover, and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Notes

  • One orange yields approximately 1/4 cup of juice and 4 tablespoons.
  • If a cinnamon stick is unavailable, substitute with 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon.
  • This sauce can be made up to two weeks in advance and stored chilled.
