Neapolitan Cake

A stunning layered dessert combining the rich flavors of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry into a visually striking and delicious cake. Perfect for celebrations or cozy family gatherings, this Neapolitan Cake offers a crowd-pleasing experience in every bite.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups strawberries (fresh or puréed)
  • 1 cup melted chocolate (dark or semi-sweet)
  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line three round cake pans with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk eggs, milk, and vanilla extract. Gradually mix into dry ingredients until just combined.
  4. Divide batter into three equal portions.
  5. Fold melted chocolate into one portion, strawberry purée into another, and leave the third as vanilla.
  6. Pour each batter into a separate prepared pan.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool cake layers completely in the pans.
  9. In a bowl, beat cream cheese, butter, and powdered sugar until smooth to make the frosting.
  10. Assemble cake by stacking chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry layers with frosting between each.
  11. Frost the outside of the cake and optionally drizzle with chocolate or berry sauce before serving.

  • Use almond milk for dairy-free version.
  • Replace eggs with flax eggs for a vegan alternative.
  • Use almond extract instead of vanilla for a flavor twist.
  • Level cake layers with a serrated knife if domed.
