Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup salted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk (or regular milk)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • mixing bowl
  • pastry cutter

Method

Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and baking soda.
  3. Add the cold butter cubes and cut them into the flour using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the texture is crumbly and sandy.
  4. Pour in the buttermilk and vanilla, then stir until the dough begins to clump together. Use your hands to gently press it into a soft dough.
  5. Gently fold in the chocolate chips by hand, mixing just enough to spread them evenly through the dough.
  6. Place the dough on the prepared baking sheet and shape it into a round 8-inch disc.
  7. Cut the disc into 8 equal triangles and separate them slightly on the baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 15–18 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. Let them cool on a wire rack before serving.
