Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1/2 cup jam or fruit preserves (any flavor)
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, for glaze)
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar (optional, for glaze)
  • 2 teaspoons milk (optional, for glaze)

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Rolling Pin
  • Knife
  • Pastry brush
  • Wire rack
  • Small mixing bowl

Method

Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, gently unfold the puff pastry and roll it out slightly to smooth the folds.
  3. Cut the pastry into 6 equal rectangles. Use a knife to lightly score a smaller rectangle inside each piece without cutting all the way through.
  4. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of jam into the center of each rectangle, spreading it within the scored area.
  5. Brush the outer edges of each tart with the beaten egg to help them brown while baking.
  6. Transfer the tarts to the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the edges are puffed and golden and the jam is bubbling.
  7. Let the tarts cool on the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. If using glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled tarts and allow to set before serving.
