  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 2 to 3 cups shredded provolone, mozzarella, Monterey Jack, or white cheddar cheese
  • Optional: jalapeños
  • Optional: mushrooms
  • Optional: cheese sauce
  • Optional: hot sauce
  • Optional: green onions
  • Optional: pickled peppers
  • Optional: ranch drizzle
  • Optional: extra provolone slices

Equipment

  • skillet
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper

Method

Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet or oven-safe dish with parchment paper if desired.
  2. If the steak is not already shaved or very thinly sliced, cut it into thin strips. Slice the onion and peppers into thin strips.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and peppers and cook for several minutes, stirring often, until softened and lightly golden around the edges.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, just until fragrant.
  5. Add the thinly sliced beef to the skillet. Season with Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir and cook until the beef is browned and just cooked through.
  6. Spread the tortilla chips in a fairly even layer on the prepared baking sheet or dish. Spoon the hot beef, onion, and pepper mixture evenly over the chips.
  7. Sprinkle the shredded cheese generously and evenly over the top.
  8. Bake for about 10 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
  9. Add any optional toppings, such as jalapeños, green onions, pickled peppers, cheese sauce, or hot sauce.
  10. Serve immediately while the cheese is hot and the chips are still crisp.
